Kimble Sherwood was born in Manitoba and when he was young, his father who was a porter moved his family to Montreal. Kimble and his siblings grew up in the neighborhood known as Little Burgundy. His mother, Helen Kane was born in Halifax and his father Easton Sherwood was born in Kingston Jamaica.
Kimble’s grandmother, Alice Kane (née Alice White), was a musician and music teacher, his mother was an amateur singer, and his first cousin once-removed was Canadian opera singer, Portia White who was Canada's first African Canadian opera singer.
Kimble joined his first choir at the age of eight and by the time he grew up, he was lead vocalist of the internationally acclaimed Montreal Jubilation Gospel Choir. Kimble is the director of the Men's Gospel Choir at the Union United Church and the founding director of the People's Gospel Choir of Montreal.
