Ona May

God has blessed me well with my many years. I’ve had my ups and downs [and] sideways

but there’s always somebody that brings you through.

Ona May Allen was born August 7th, 1925 in Raleigh Township in North Buxton. Her Dad, Gordon Admiral Morris was born in 1900 in Raleigh and her mom, Ida Louisa Agnes Travis was born in Dresden in the Dawn Townships. Ona's Dad’s family came through Niagara to Canada and her Mom’s through the Underground Railroad via Amherstburg.

Ona May was one of the first Black nurses hired at Hamilton General hospital in 1953 and was a volunteer at Joseph Brant hospital for 20 years.
